About GMOS Clinic
A Medical Practice for a Medical Disease
Gainesville Medical Obesity Specialty Clinic was founded in 2016 by Dr. Cindi Larimer, on a simple premise: obesity is a chronic disease, not a failure of willpower. It deserves to be treated like one.
Why the name matters
We Are Not a Weight Loss Clinic.
We are a medical specialty clinic, and a safe medical home for people living with excess body weight.

Our mission
A Practice That Loves Its Patients
Accepting obesity as a lifelong medical disease, we offer compassionate, quality care using medically sound methods to achieve and maintain weight loss, while promoting self-acceptance and working to fight internalized weight bias for every patient.
We are dedicated to changing how our community thinks about weight, so that obesity is understood and treated as the disease it is, with compassion rather than blame.

Our why
Why We Are Here
Gainesville Medical Obesity Specialty Clinic represents my desire to provide accurate and cutting-edge medical care, grounded in Obesity Medicine Specialist training, to every patient in a caring, judgment-free, one-on-one direct care model.
GMOS Clinic was started and continues today to provide a safe medical home for people living with excess body weight. Obesity is a real, complex chronic disease that is extremely frustrating and requires expert care integrating the medical, surgical, psychological, and behavioral aspects of its treatment. It is not solved by simply “learning to eat and move correctly.”
Many of my patients have spent years dieting, exercising, trying supplements, and taking prescription medications with little lasting success. Some have had surgery, and yet many still regained weight. Too many have been told by medical, nutritional, and sports professionals that their pain or health problems were caused by their weight. So, most internalized that blame, quietly apologizing for not being “good enough” dieters or exercisers.
“It is not that they have failed. It is that the medical system has failed them.”
Prevention and long-term health have always been central goals: helping patients understand what’s really going on in their bodies and working together toward a more realistic, compassionate view of their own health. Our care focuses on reducing their risk of developing chronic obesity related conditions, such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease, and more.
My greatest reward is watching that prevention turn into results: cholesterol numbers coming down, sleep apnea improving, energy returning, and hearing that a patient took a flight for the first time without needing a seat belt extender!
Healing comes from safe, respectful, compassionate care. In this judgment-free practice, we focus on medical excellence in treating obesity with kindness and understanding.

The People You’ll See Every Visit
When you come to GMOS Clinic, you’ll have real, unhurried time with Dr. Larimer. That one-on-one time is why we’re a small, one-doctor specialty practice.
You’ll also get to know the rest of our team, many of them University of Florida students headed into medicine and the health sciences. They’re here to walk beside you: our nutrition students lead your nutrition sessions, and our staff will welcome you to your free consultation and guide you through routine body composition tests and basic physical health evaluations. You’ll always have support along the way.
Please Note: Dogs in Our Office
We have 2 dogs in the office that give lots of warmth and smiles. Please let us know if you are allergic or uncomfortable so we can be sure your room sign states “No Dogs.”
