How Does Excess Body Fat (Obesity) Increase My Risk of Cancer?

Excessive amounts of body fat, especially stored in and around the abdomen, release adipokines. These mediators are known as cytokines or adipokines (ones from fat)

These are a broad category of proteins secreted by one cell and then affecting other cells (through a signaling cascade).  Many adipokines increase inflammation in our body.  Others impact cells producing different cytokines and lead to  a cascade of signals causing insulin resistance, auto-immune disease, osteoarthritis, vascular disease, cancers, premature aging and death.

Cancers risks associated with Obesity include:

Bladder, Brain, Breast, Cervical, Colon, Uterine, Esophageal,

Gallbladder, Head & Neck, Kidney, Leukemia, Liver, Multiple Myeloma

Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, Ovarian, Prostate, Pancreatic, Stomach, and Thyroid.

More fat cells = more adipokines = more damage.

Lowering your percent body fat is vital to lifelong health.
